England Go All-In On Bazball

It looks like we’re going for 100% ‘Bazball’—who saw that coming? Brendan McCullum has been handed the promotion he (probably) saw coming. What is the difference between England's white ball and red ball anyway? McCullum, who's already in charge of the Test side—in case you live under a rock—will now take charge of all white-ball formats with a contract until 2027. His first tour will take him to India, a nice gentle introduction.

Pakistani Cricket Sinks To New Depths

SHOCK! Pakistan is imploding. We’ve seen this one before. The perpetual clown car that is Pakistani cricket rolls on. But let's not make light of this. For a nation filled with incredible talent and potential, it’s sad to see them going into this nosedive. There are so many elements to the problems. Since late 2022, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has experienced significant upheaval, with three different chairmen making numerous changes to staff and leadership. This instability led to Babar Azam resigning as captain after the ODI World Cup, a split captaincy arrangement, and then his recent reinstatement by the current PCB head, Mohsin Naqvi. Their latest loss to Bangladesh was another nail. Without stability, how can this once powerhouse ever succeed?

The Not-So-World Test Championship

The World Test Championship Final will be held at Lord’s in 2025. That’s three Finals out of three that will be held in England since its inception in 2019. Doesn’t feel very ‘international’ does it? Surely, to grow the Test format and make the game more inclusive, the showcase event needs to be played on stages worldwide to exhibit loyal fan bases and local culture and engage the next generation. Or, maybe the ICC should listen to Nathan Lyon and go down a three-match series where each Test is played in a different nation. Now, that would be a test.
